Course Summary
The Anthracite Triathlon will begin and end at Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe, PA. The 1.5K swim will be in Mauch Chunk Lake. The challenging 40K bike loop will begin at the lake, pass through the small anthracite coal towns of Summit Hill, Lansford, Nesquehoning, Jim Thorpe and finish back at the lake. The bike course is entirely on paved roads. The 10K run will be on the Switchback Trail, a nicely graded rail bed, and paved roads. There is one secure transition area in the park which is near the awards pavilion.

Swim
Average water temperature for July: 72ƒ
Average air temperature at start of race: 66ƒ
Wet suits are allowed
Wave start from beach, exiting on a concrete handicap ramp;
wave assignments will be given during race check-in
Carpeted pathway from swim exit to transition area
Water is very calm, some light fog may be possible before race
Buoys in water to mark distance and direction
Kayakers and boaters will provide support along the swim course
Swim will be 1 lap of a triangle course and will be counter clock-wise;
keep buoys to your left the entire swim (please see course map above)
Swim cut off is 1 hour from last wave start

The shaded trail run gradually descends through dense woodlands, rhododendron & laurel thickets to the turn around point and then ascends back on Lentz Trail Road to the finish line in Mauch Chunk Lake Park
There will be mile markers every 1 mile and 5 aid stations along the way providing water (approximately every 1.5 miles)
The trail portion will be closed to cars but other walkers, runners, or bikers may be on the trail
Course will be marked with signs for both mileage and direction
